A survivor. A warrior. An Overcomer. Since a child I've always known that I wanted to design and create fashion to tell a story through what we wore. Growing up in unstable environments at the beginning of my childhood taught me how to express myself more. It was easier to come up with a plan as if I knew how to get out but that didn't matter because I had an imagination beyond what I could see. We all have a story to tell and I know after surviving suicide, God had bigger plans for me to help another not take that route, find purpose and ways to express themselves. I've grown tremendously into the beautiful woman God has created me to be. It's been a journey but each struggle MADE me who I AM today.
How'd you come up with MITTS?
One day 2018 in the middle of my struggle, sitting on the floor trying to figure out which way to go and how I can change my life and financial situations, a thought came to me and said to myself, "I know how to create and draw". Being that I carried my notebooks around because I couldn't express the pain I was experiencing but could write and draw it. At the top of the paper I wrote "Made.It.Through.the.Struggle started to draw T-Shirts, moved the notebook back to view it differently and seen "MITTS". From that point on I said to myself over and over that MITTS was engraved on my heart.
Your Struggle
Your struggle can be anything you just have to have enough faith to believe.I struggled with abandonment, all forms of abuse before love, mental health, broken education, domestic violence, depression, low self esteem, loneliness, homelessness, emotions, growing pains and so on. All that pushed me to not want to be here. On February 13, 2017 I attempted suicide by taking 16 pills to leave this world. Waking up on Valentines Day, I didn't feel normal anymore. I was upset and questioned why I was still alive but that experience alone showed me God is real. I suffered for months May 11, 2017 I survived a bad car accident and lost everything I earned, worked for and blessed with. October 11, 2017 Hit by a car and survived.
Our Story
Survived 2017 - Created 2018 - Established in 2020
During the pandemic I began to motivate others due to many people feeling lost, discouraged about what to do and couldn't sit with themselves. I took advantage of that time to shine and be light in dark times to help others find their gifts. I began to drop design that'll have you thinking deep into the graphic design. Taking an initiative to step up, be a leader and doing more with less.
We have since grown to become one of the best clothing lines in the city of Chicago, offering a wide range of trendy and high-quality clothing at affordable prices.
